Bias in AI-supported decision-making is just one of the challenges we are facing in this buzzword-heavy domain. As world superpowers – both countries and (technology) corporations – are racing to become the leaders of AI research and application, we are (re-)discovering more and more ethical challenges that need to be addressed as part of the design of AI systems, rather than as an afterthought.

Om Kaimar Karu

Before returning to his roots in technology leadership, Kaimar worked as the Minister of Foreign Trade and Information Technology of the Republic of Estonia. Prior to taking office in November 2019, he ran a consultancy business in London, helping international organisations get the most from digital technologies and address sustainability goals. This role was preceded by a global role as Head of Product Strategy and Development for AXELOS, a joint venture with the UK Cabinet Office and Capita plc.

Kaimar has worked at the intersection of technology, digital governance, policymaking, and business management for more than 20 years. He was Chapter President for the Estonian itSMF chapter from 2013 to 2018.

He currently works as a Chief Transformation Officer at MindBridge, focusing on strategy and decision-making in complex environments in the private and public sector. He is a published author and a frequent keynote speaker at international technology events.
